Controversy includes who actually won the 1925 NFL Championship. Officially, the Chicago Cardinals are listed as the 1925 NFL champions because they finished with the best record; however,
Under the league rules during that time, the NFL title was automatically given to the team with the best record at the end of the season instead of having the winner be determined by a playoff tournament.
After the 1925 NFL season, both the Cleveland Bulldogs and Rochester Jeffersons folded. Also, the Rock Island Independents leave the NFL for the rival AFL at the end of the season.
The NFL said it would revisit the issue later, but never did. It was only later that the Cardinals began claiming the championship title.
